Captain’s Charity 2013 – 2014

My charity for the 2013-2014 season will be The Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
(reg no 1144097)
The air ambulance needs nearly £2,000 a day — £700,000 a year
We all see the helicopter from time to time. Do you ever wonder where they are going?
They have a phrase’ THE GOLDEN HOUR’ which they can reach an incident in 11 minutes. This is imperative that the injured person can receives medical attention within this hour to limit minimizing life threatening injuries or possible death.
Nearly half the incident, the Air Ambulance attends is road traffic accidents on our county roads and motorways. Other situations cardiac arrests, horse riding accidents, work related injury, farm accidents, pediatric collapse and burns.
Since the launch of the Air Ambulance over 20 years ago, has been literally thousands of responses.
To which providing emergency medical assistance throughout the county.
I would like to give a big thank you to the Senior’s working party for repairing the 17th bunker. This has allowed me to nominate it as the Captains Charity Bunker with a of fine of 50p, for going in to it and 50p for not getting passed the ladies tees on any hole, The maximum fine! on any round will be £1.00

My choice for this years charity is the British Heart Foundation.
Heart disease is common in Britain, but through the British Heart Foundation treatment is becoming more advanced and we are all being educated to look after our heart. I see golf as the ideal sport to participate in and help to keep a healthy heart at the same time. People old and young can come together and compete and enjoy a round of golf in fantastic surroundings.
I am sure that we all know someone who has been affected by heart disease sadly some of them are not with us anymore. For me personally both my Father and Father-in-law have both suffered heart attacks.
Thankfully they both survived and they both had medical procedures that helped them regain their fitness. Without charities like the British Heart Foundation much of this research may never have been explored. With the advent of medical procedures and heart transplants now common place we have to provide more support for even more advancements and more lives to be saved.
The summer charity event will be held on the 23rd June 2012 where four person teams will pit their skill against each other. I hope to see you all there and welcome your support and ideas for the day.
I will of course be bringing back the old favorites such as the Captains pond on the 1st and 2nd hole. There will also be a men’s fine of 50 pence for failing to make the ladies tee. Ladies not to leave you out there will be a 50 pence fine for hitting the ball into a ditch less than 50 yards in front of you (you know where they are!)
I am looking forward to this year as your Captain at Woodbridge Park Golf Club so happy golfing and let us enjoy it as a successful club.

My choice of charity was Parkinson’sUK, to help support the local branch near Malmesbury. Parkinson’s is a condition which can affect anyone and can be debilitating, frustrating and worrying to the sufferers. But the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s can be so much better, thanks to the network of local groups, specialist nurses and support staff provided by Parkinson’sUK. Their work is totally dependent on donations and charity events to fund this support and research to find a cure, and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s
My main Charity Event was held on Friday 15th July, when teams of 4 were invited to take part in a Progressive Bowmaker competition in support of Parkinson’sUK. This was very well supported by our Club members, and raised £572 on the day
However, this was a year-long challenge, and smaller events to raise funds started on 2nd April with the captain’s drive-in, when everyone was invited to guess the length of drive for each of this year’s captains – Club, Seniors and Ladies. And throughout the year “voluntary” contributions were made by players hitting their ball into the Captain’s Pond” on the 1st, with a 50p fine for finding the water from the 1st, and a £1 donation if they managed to hook (or slice) their drive into the pond from the 2nd.
Woodbridge Park Golf Club has an excellent record in supporting various charities, and this year has been no exception, with members continuing the generous tradition of taking part in support of a good cause. To date we have raised over £1100, which has been passed on to the Malmesbury branch of ParkinsonsUK.
