Spring course update

Best laid plans of……….

Its official, April has been the wettest in over a hundred years!! Let’s not mention the hose pipe ban!

Unfortunately the long spell of rain and the subsequently low soil temperatures has resulted in a slow down in the growth on the course.

The opening of the new green and the two new tees will now be further away than expected.

The new driving range area is also behind schedule, good old British weather!

As soon as the weather allows us to cut the course in a more managed and more frequent basis, we hope that the new cutting regime will have an impact on playing surfaces and generally enhance the course aesthetics.

Let’s hope for a warmer drier May.

Happy Golfing!!

Winter Course Update Feb 2012

The course has held up remarkably well over the winter period.

Comments on the greens from both visitors and members have been excellent, all commenting on the receptiveness, grass cover and roll of the ball.

The monthly verti-draining and frequent brushing before cutting has certainly paid dividends over this period.  As we have recently come out of snow covered greens, the greens did show signs slight leaf burn, manifesting itself particularly on the leaf tip.  This condition was in no was debilitating to the plant and is quickly growing out.

Other parts of the course have also faired extremely well during the winter period.  The yearly mole-ploughing in the wettest parts of the course has seen year on year improvements to the drainage system.

It is envisaged that new tees and the new 17th green
will be in play by April or early May at the latest.

Most of the course bridges have been refurbished or have undergone repair work in some way.

So far so good!

The growing season is almost upon us, will soil temperatures expected to reach 13 degrees this weekend, the course is slowly awakening from its winter slumber!

I’ll keep you updated throughout the year with all the course news

Happy Golfing

Ross
