A big thanks to Richard for the coaching

I have now confirmed three of the four fixtures for our Buthlay Cup Matches, which are as follows:

• Sunday 26th May – Ogbourne (Away) First Tee 1pm
• Saturday 1st June – Upavon (Home) First Tee 1pm
• Sunday 21st July – North Wilts (Away) First Tee 1pm

I am expecting to confirm the match against Marlborough by the end of next week

There is another Squad training session on Tuesday 14th May at 5:30, Richard will once again be on hand for coaching (£3 per player) all club members are welcome.

The Team to play against Ogbourne will be announced on Friday 17th May

Buthlay Cup Team Captain

The weather was reasonably kind to the golfers but there were 40-50 mph winds to deal with which made scoring a little tricky.

The format for the day was 18 holes, with the front 9 being played to stableford and the back 9 stroke play.

The final scores were calculated by subtracting the stableford points away from the back nine net score

The Results were as follows:

1. Surendra Rai 19-32=13
2. Andy Littleford 18-32=14
3. Robert Knight 15-35=20

The winners of each league will contest a knockout semi final and final. The competition format is a team of 8 (men only for 2013) playing a pair’s match play with maximum handicap of three quarters of 28 and the minimum will be 6.

This simply means that the lowest handicap in the 4 players plays of scratch with the others receiving three quarters of the difference between theirs and the lowest players handicap.

The Squad for the Buthlay Cup is as follows:

Each match only requires 8 players, playing in a x4 Betterball Pairs Format, and as you can see we could easily field two teams.

So to make the selection process easier I will be arranging some 9-hole roll ups to get a feel for the pairings.

The first couple will be on:

• Thursday 9th May @ 17:30
• Tuesday 14th May @ 17:30

Also Richard Lawless our resident PGA Professional has agreed to do some squad coaching during the roll-ups, which will cost just£3 per player.  This will include some aspects of course management, shot selection and mental processes…and no doubt a whole bunch more.

Our first match is AWAY against Ogbourne on Sunday 26^th May @ 1pm

I will be announcing the team selection on Friday 17th

We have four matches to play in the first phase of the competition and the other three fixtures will be announced as soon as I know them

The club will be playing, Ogbourne (Away) North Wilts (Away) Upavon (Home) and Marlborough (Home).

33 golfers played in the competition which has become an intense and hard fought battle of mickey taking comments, banter and some surprisingly good golf, which seems to be ‘par for the course’ for a gathering of the Seniors.

Despite some serious aspirations to win, the competition was a closely fought tussle where golfers were playing for the prestigious Captains Cup, individual and a team prizes.

The day was blessed  with the course looking better than ever and the best weather of the season so far, reasonably cool at the start then the temperature soared to an impressive 16 degrees.

When the competition ended the players retired to the clubhouse for some well earned refreshments followed by an excellent lunch and presentation of prizes.

The winners then received their prizes along with some carefully selected words of encouragement from the Seniors Captain and our resident score-master David Langley-Hobbs.

This was our first Seniors Captains Cup under the new clubhouse management team. Trevor, Lynn, Cheryl and Fiona did an exceptional job to ensure that all the arrangements for the refreshments and lunch were in place.

The seniors enjoyed a superb lunch of home-made Lasagne followed by a classic Tiramisu and organised the upstairs function room to it’s maximum capacity.

The Quiz night was a great success.

Supported by a full house of members and their guests who had lots of fun with a great atmosphere.

A huge thanks to Keith and Val Chapman for running the quiz, which raised £163.00 for Cancer Research.

My charity for the 2013-2014 season will be The Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The air ambulance needs nearly £2,000 a day — £700,000 a year

We all see the helicopter from time to time. Do you ever wonder where they are going?

They have a phrase’ THE GOLDEN HOUR’ which they can reach an incident in 11 minutes. This is imperative that the injured person can receives medical attention within this hour to limit minimizing life threatening injuries or possible death.

Nearly half the incident, the Air Ambulance attends is road traffic accidents on our county roads and motorways. Other situations cardiac arrests, horse riding accidents, work related injury, farm accidents, pediatric collapse and burns.

Since the launch of the Air Ambulance over 20 years ago, has been literally thousands of responses.

To which providing emergency medical assistance throughout the county.

I would like to give a big thank you to the Senior’s working party for repairing the 17^th bunker.  This has allowed me to nominate it as the Captains Charity Bunker with a of fine of 50p, for going in to it and 50p for not getting passed  the ladies tees on any hole,  The maximum fine! on any round will be £1.00

My main Charity Day will be on the Saturday 20^th July with teams of four, the format will be arranged nearer the date.  Also I will be having other smaller competitions including chipping, pitch & putt & so on. If anyone has any other ideas please inform me.
